The Ways & Means Trust is a registered charity formed 40 years ago, specifically to provide rehabilitation and training for adults recovering from mental illness or with a learning disability. The Charity’s aim is to provide a safe environment where people are able to build or rebuild their skills, confidence and, where possible, move into full employment. The Horticultural site was originally in Caversham but moved to Peppard approximately 11 years ago.
Greenshoots is a five-acre site at Manor Farm, with a 60’ glasshouse and two polytunnels, at which we provide a variety of work-realistic nursery tasks, underpinned by classroom teaching, for example, plant identification, propagation, cultivation, ground preparation, crop rotation, pest disease control, vegetable and fruit crops, and cultivation of herbs & bedding plants.
We specialise in growing vegetable, salad, soft and orchard fruit crops, which we pick and sell throughout the seasons. Where possible, these crops are grown without added chemicals, e.g. pesticides, inorganic fertilisers, fungicides, etc., so though Greenshoots do not have the Soil Association’s Organic Standard mark, our produce is nearly all chemical free.
Plant sales are mainly focussed on spring and summer bedding, hanging baskets, herbs, and shrubs.
We are open weekdays from 9am to 4pm and some weekends in season.
