indiaIndia Paton is Year Six pupil at Peppard Primary School, she swims for Reading Swimming Squad and competes against a number of other squads in the county.

Recently India was awarded the squad cup – a new award for Reading Swimming Squad making her the first person to win this. She received the award for making the greatest amount of progress this year, showing the greatest amount of determination and the highest level of attendance – she trains five times a week including 05.45-7.00 on a Monday morning before school.

India also holds the cup record for the fastest 100 metre freestyle in the under 10s category.

India started swimming for the squad in January 2012, after being spotted by a member of the swimming squad during a gala and was then given the opportunity to become part of the squad. ‘I was really lucky to be given this opportunity – I said Yes because it was something different to do and I love to compete.’

When asked who her role model was India said ‘Rebecca Addlington because she is a female swimmer who is an Olympic Gold Medallist.’
