Henry’s Big Swim
Henry is 11 years old and has Aspergers Syndrome – he is the youngest of our four children and we live in Peppard Common.
Henry has had swimming lessons all his life and has spent the best part of a year training for the Padstow – Rock swim across the Camel Estuary in Rock, Cornwall, under the tutelage of Nigel Downing, a local triathlete and family friend. The preparation involved months of intensive swimming tuition, culminating in open water sessions at 05.00 from May onwards. Henry’s progress was amazing and on 12th June he took part in the swim with Nigel alongside him, managing to come a staggering 12th out of over 200 entrants, mostly adult. The distance that he swam was just under a mile and he managed this in only 25 minutes.
Henry has raised over £700 for Marie Curie Cancer Care and has been nominated by the charity for a National Award – he has also appeared in a recent edition of the Henley Standard. Our profound thanks go to Nigel Downing for all his hard work in training Henry – this truly has been a remarkable achievement.
